Comment on R4 DS Revolution Vs Cyclo DS Evolution - A Quick Review by Stef

I know this is now a bit of an old post, but I've been looking everywhere for a few simple answers that i'm sure a CycloDS user will be able to answer, my story...

I recently bought a R4 card from a web based company mainly because I wanted to be able to shove a bigger SD card in it, which my original R4 card is not compatible of taking. So I bought a 16gb SD card and this R4 'Upgrade' card (although looking the same as my old R4 card, it's probably a 'fake')

Got them both, copied all my stuff over from the old SD card, no problems...

One thing is bugging me.. The game menu, when you scroll down, the game icon slowly scrolls over the top of the game name, couple that with the fact that the menu is so poorly laid out that it cannot display many characters, and you have a right mess. Unreadble game names and with not many characters to read, you cannot tell which is which is some cases, and none of this is changeable in the options. Surely not all R4 cards are like this this? When I switch it on, it does come up with the wesites name that I obtained it, a dead giveaway that they have 'branded' it with a pants menu system?

I've looked about online to see if this menu is changeable/replaceable, it appears it is not, or if it is I was unable to find how it can be done? I have played about with my old and new SD cards to see if I can chop the files about to use the menu my original R4 card had (the simple white backround one), I don't think I can do this either...

The few questions...

Is it possible that the menu and other bits (not the skins ofc) are hard coded to the R4 card, and not the SD card? Maybe something the company who sold it to me have put on it? I may test this out by copying the entire contents of both cards onto my PC, switching them and seeing what happens when I put my old SD card in the new R4, I have kinda tried this already, but it will not startup, which points towards a file issue like the new R4 card is looking for a certain file, which is where my hardcoded theory comes from.

The CycloDS... I read something from a forum that was posted a while back saying that the CycloDS is not as technologically advanced as the R4, stating that you can just turn on a DS with an R4 in it and you are straight at the menu, a CycloDS on the other hand needs to go to the DS menu first, then to the CycloDS menu? As I said, the post was quite old, so i'm hoping that this is no longer the case, or not true in the first place? If anyone knows?

Someone please tell me that the CycloDS game menu is not a mortifing as the one i'm stuck with now? I may of paid in the region of £50 for the R4 and the SD card, but I'm willing to buy again because that game menu is really getting on my chimes, I don't need the SD card ofc.

Put simply, can the CycloDS do what I used to do with my old R4...

1. SD card in CycloDS
2. Turn on
3. Menu
4. Enjoy

If so, I will get one without a second thought.

Any info will be greatly apprieciated, if anyone is still awake after reading this :(

Regards

You the man/woman Chance...errr you're awesome!!!

As chance basically said:
Just open the config.xml file in your cyclods folder with wordpad or any other word processor,
and change the line:

/moonshl2/moonshl2.nds

to whatever it is supposed to be e.g.

/moonshl/moonshell.nds

I'm another co-signer of Chance's suggestion. Thanks!

"Change the moonshl folder to moonshl2, and the file inside that folder from moonshell.nds to moonshl2.nds."
